Abstract: Preparation of molding materials (comprising a thermoplastic matrix and a dispersible rubber) comprises preparing rubber in emulsion, isolating the rubber from the emulsion, mixing the obtained rubber with an organic solvent, mixing the obtained mixture (M1) with a mixture of the thermoplastic matrix and an organic solvent (M2), removing the solvent from the obtained mixture (M3) and regenerating the obtained product. Preparation of molding materials (comprising a thermoplastic matrix and a dispersible rubber) comprises: (A) preparing rubber in emulsion; (B) isolating the rubber from the emulsion (by coagulation of the rubber and removing of water in single or multi-level procedure); (C) mixing the obtained rubber with an organic solvent; (D) mixing the obtained mixture (M1) with a mixture of the thermoplastic matrix and an organic solvent (M2); (E) removing the solvent from the obtained mixture (M3); and (F) regenerating the obtained product (where the ratio of the viscosity of the mixture (M1) to the viscosity of the mixture (M2) is 1:100-100:1). An independent claim is also included for a device for the preparation of molding materials.

Abstract: In the production of molding compositions (A) comprising a rubber (I) dispersed in a thermoplastic matrix (II), by (a) preparing (I) in an emulsion, (b) isolating (I) by coagulation followed by removal of water in one or more stages, (c) mixing (I) with an organic solvent, (d) blending the mixture (M1) with a mixture (M2) of (II) and an organic solvent, (e) removing the solvent from the obtained mixture (M3) and (f) processing the product, the ratio of the viscosity of (M1) to that of (M2) is 1:100 to 100:1. An independent claim is included for apparatus for carrying out the process, the apparatus not being specifically described in general terms in the independent claim but preferably being such that several mixtures (M3) with different (I)/(II) ratios can be prepared in step (d) and further processed separately in steps (e) and (f).

Abstract: A thermoplastic moulding compsn. contains: (A) 30-90 wt. % of a thermoplastic polymer with Tg above 20 deg C; (B) 10-70% of a graft copolymer from: (b1) 30-90%, w.r.t. (B) of a graft backbone with Tg below 10 deg C, based on, (b11) 50-99.95%, w.r.t. (b1) of a 1-30C alkyl acylate, (b12) 0.49.9% of a copolymerisable, mono-unsatd. monomer, (b13) 0.01-5% of a bifunctional cross-linking monomer, and (b14) 0.05-5% of an at least trifunctional cross-linking monomer; and (b2) 10-70%, w.r.t. (B), of a casing grafted onto the graft copolymer, from (b21) 50-90% of a vinylaromatic monomer, (b22) 50-5% of (meth)acrylonitrile, a 1-20C alkyl (meth)acrylate, maleic anhydride, (meth)acrylamide and/or a vinyl alkyl ether with 1-8C in the alkyl gp., as polar, copolymerisable monomer; (C) 0-50% of a fibrous or particulate filler or reinforcing agent; and (D) 0-30% of the usual aids and auxiliaries.
