    Abstract: A process for the prodn. of (1-4C alkyl) (meth)acrylate esters (AM/AE) from esters of formula (I) and opt. esters of formula (II), in which R = H or Me; R , R = 1-4C alkyl; n = 0 or more. The process comprises reaction in the liq. phase under reduced pressure in presence of acid, with continuous removal of cleavage prods. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of (AM/AE) by the acid-catalysed esterification of 1-4C alkanols with (meth)acrylic acid, in which by-prods. (I) and (II) are sepd. from the prod. mixt. and subjected to the above cleavage process, and the cleavage prods. are continuously removed and returned to the esterification process.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing (meth)acrylic acid esters by reacting (meth)acrylic acid with C4-C12-alkanols in the presence of sulfuric acid or of a sulfuric acid mono-C4-C12-alkyl ester as a catalyst, wherein the catalyst is regenerated by extraction with water from the reaction mixture and the aqueous catalyst solution is reintroduced into the esterification. The concentration of non-reacted alkanol in the reaction mixture that is to be extracted amounts to a maximum of 5 wt.% in relation to said reaction mixture.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing (meth)acrylic acid esters by making (meth)acrylic acid react with C4-C6 alkanols in the presence of a strong inorganic acid or of C4-C6 monoalkyl ester of a polyvalent strong acid as catalyzer. Said method is characterized in that the non-reacted alkanol is removed through distillation from the reaction mixture obtained and subsequently the catalyzer is eliminated from the mixture obtained.
