Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing magnetic recording media for perpendicular recording by coating, by means of a PVD process, a non-magnetic substrate with a cobalt-containing, ferromagnetic metal layer which has a magnetic anisotropy perpendicular to the plane of the coating, the temperature of the substrate being increased during the coating by means of external heating.
