Abstract: Dispersion dye prepns. contain (a) 5-40 wt. % one or more finely-divided dispersion dyes or optical brighteners, (b) 5-40 wt. % water-soluble surfactant from reaction of (i) ethylene oxide adducts of polyether diols made by polymerisation of butylene oxide T.H.F. or hexamethylene oxide in presence of acid or alkali, or (ii) adducts of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide on 2-10C diols, polyols and/or bis-(hydroxy cyclohexyl)methane or derivs., with 0.2-1 mol. chlorosulphonic acid, SO3 or sulpho-propionic anhydride per mol OH and subsequent neutralisation, (c) 5-30% usual anionic dispersant, and (d) 40-85% water opt. mixed with a water retention agent, or 10-90% (c) with no (d), and (e) opt. other usual additives. Used for dyeing or brightening of textiles contg. synthetic fibres, esp. wound yarns, e.g. cheeses, of cellulose ester or linear polyester fibres. The dispersions are stable and unchanged after prolonged storage at room temp. or many days at 60 degrees C. They are easily dispersed in water by stirring, and after long heating of dye baths at 110-140 degrees C, no dye flocculation or filtering of dye in outer yarn layers occurs.

Abstract: According to the parent patent conc. stable aq. dispersions contain (A) 40-60 wt. % dispersion or vat dye, and (B) a dispersing agent made by condnsn. of phenol, formaldehyde or formaldehyole-donor, and Na2SO3 or NaHSO3 in molar ratio 1:1-4:0.3-1.6, in presence of 0.05-0.5 mol. NaOH per mol. phenol, in aq. medium with concns. time of 1-8 h. In this specification in place of (B) is used a lignin sulphonate contg. 0.5-0.2 SO3H gps. per phenylpropane unit and with mol. wt. of 5000-40,000.

Abstract: Pigments are coated with cpds. of formula (I) (in which R is an opt. branched-chain, opt. unsatd. alkyl gp. with (9-25)C atoms.) The amt. of coating material is 0.1-30 (3-15) wt.% of that of the pigment, and R is pref. (15-19)C alkyl, esp. heptadecenyl. The coated pigments have improved dispersibility and are suitable for a wide range of uses, including colouring of paints, printing inks, plastics and leather.

Abstract: Highly conc. powdery dispersion- and vat dye compsns. contain, by wt., (a) 50-80 (60-70)% of >=1 finely dispersed dispersion- or vat dyes, and (b) 20-50 (30-40)% condensn. prod. as dispersant. Dispersant is prepd. by re-condensn. of (i) a condensate (I), which is prepd. by condensing phenolsulphonic acids, free from condensed ring systems, with urea and HCHO or HCHO-yielding matls., in mol. ratio 1:1-1.5:1.7-2.2, with (ii) a condensate (II) prepd. from phenol and HCHO, in mol. ratio 1:1, in a strongly alkaline medium. Re-condensn. takes place in a strongly acid medium. Before re-condensn. with (I), (II) is left to react 1-2 hrs. at pH 2-4. Compsns. dye textiles in pure colour shades, including bright yellow to orange. Condensate does not colour or soil textile fibres. Bright effects are obtd. when using optical brighteners. Even sensitive dyes can be dispersed at higher temps., e.g. 60-90 degrees C, to form stable dispersions. Dispersions can take place at pH 4-7 without increasing viscosity. Dispersion velocity achieved is higher than with standard dispersants. In an example, dispersant prepn. (I) was pred. from 94 pts. sulphonated phenol, 60 pts. urea and 190 pts. 30% HCHO. (II) was prepd. from 47 pts. phenol and 50 pts. 30% HCHO.
