Abstract: Copper ions are removed from copper phthalocyanine pigments by treatment in strongly acid aq. medium with calcium phthalocyanine as complexing agent. Concn. of copper ions, which are harmful in pigments used for rubbers and plastics, is reduced to below 40-50 ppm. The calcium phthalocyanine is more effective than other complexing agents at the highly acid conditions necessary. Pref. treatment is at pH 0.5-2, in diluted aq. HCl, at 80 degrees C. up to b.pt., and 1-6 wt. % calcium phthalocyanine is used, based on wt. of pigment.

Abstract: A pigment which is stable in nitrocellulose and comprises at least one trisaminotriarylmethane dye and heteropolyacids based on phosphoric acid, molybdic acid or tungstic acid, the pigment containing from 0.1 to 10% by weight (based on the pigment formulation) of a compound which possesses at least one -N(CH2-COOH)2 group. The pigment may be used for the stable coloration of nitrocellulose-containing printing inks and finishes or of nitrocellulose chips.

Abstract: Pigments are coated with cpds. of formula (I) (in which R is an opt. branched-chain, opt. unsatd. alkyl gp. with (9-25)C atoms.) The amt. of coating material is 0.1-30 (3-15) wt.% of that of the pigment, and R is pref. (15-19)C alkyl, esp. heptadecenyl. The coated pigments have improved dispersibility and are suitable for a wide range of uses, including colouring of paints, printing inks, plastics and leather.
