Abstract: Naphthalene sulphonic acid and formaldehyde condensation product. Title cpd. used as a stabiliser for rubber or latex, in tanning and paper manufacture and as a dispersing agent, e.g. for dyes. However, owing to SO4-- present, the dispersing power diminishes on storage. The SO4-- concn. may be reduced by neutralising the crude condensation product with NaOH, pref. adding MeOH at some stage, adjusting the concn. of the soln. to 30-65%, cooling to -10 to +23 degrees C and filtering Na2SO4 crystals.

Abstract: Water-soluble, nitrogen-containing condensates are prepared by reacting a cross-linking agent, obtained by (a) condensing 1 mole of a dicarboxylic acid of 4 to 10 carbon atoms with from 1 to 2 moles of a polyalkylenepolyamine, having 3-10 basic nitrogen atoms in the molecule, to give a polyamidoamine and (b) reacting the polyamidoamine with epichlorohydrin and/or dichlorohydrin in aqueous solution at a pH of from 4.5 to 8.5 and at below 100 DEG C., from 1 to 130 parts by weight of epichlorohydrin and/or dichlorohydrin being employed per 100 parts by weight of the polyamidoamine from (a), with ammonia, a primary amine, a polyamine containing 2 to 4 N atoms, a polyether-amine or a polyamidoamine in aqueous solution at below 100 DEG C. The condensates are used as retention aids, flocculants and drainage aids in papermaking.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of pourable choline chloride/silica powders by mixing silica with choline chloride and, where appropriate, drying this mixture, wherein spray-dried or fluidized bed-dried silica which has a particle size of from 30 to 250 mu m is mixed with an aqueous choline chloride solution which contains from 70 to 80% by weight, based on the solution, of choline chloride and is at from 40 DEG to 80 DEG C., thereafter from 0.05 to 0.4% by weight, based on the mixture, of magnesium stearate or calcium stearate is added and, if appropriate, the resulting mixture is dried.

Abstract: In the prodn. of ClCH2COOH (I) by reaction of liq. CH3COOH with gaseous Cl2 in the presence of a halogenation catalyst, the CH3COOH is passed through the reaction zone at a rate of 0.1-20 kg/hr/l in cocurrent with 0.5-1.5 times this amt. of Cl2, the residence time of the gas phase being 1-60 sec. and the residence time of the liq. phase being 1-100 times this value. The phases thus flow through the reaction zone without significant mixing and the reaction takes place at the phase interface. Products contg. 1 wt. % Cl2CHCOOH are obtained. (I) is used as a preservative, a solvent and a starting material for the prodn. of dyes, pesticides, plasticisers and synthetic resins.
