Abstract: Primer used in coating solid substrates with liquid, pasty or powdered coating agents consists of a crosslinked adhesive (I) with a Tg of -60 to 0 deg.C and a peel strength against V2A steel of min. 0.025 N/cm. (I) pref. is an acrylate (co)polymer, polyol crosslinked with polyisocyanates or (co)polyester crosslinked with melamine, urea, benzoguanamine or epoxide resins or esp. polyisocyanates. The primer is esp. for use in coating glass with PVC pastes and then if necessary with 2-component top coat lacquers based on polyurethanes. It adheres well to various solid substrates and to the coatings applied later.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of cyclopentadiene copolymers, wherein cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene, tricyclopentadiene, their C1-C3-alkyl derivatives or co-dimers of cyclopentadiene with a diene of 4 or 5 carbon atoms are reacted with acetylenically unsaturated compounds, with or without other copolymerizable olefinically unsaturated monomers, at from 200 DEG to 320 DEG C. The cyclopentadiene polymers prepared according to the invention may be used, for example, as resin additives for surface coatings, tackifiers in adhesives or resins for printing inks.

Abstract: Copolymers, having a uniform structure, of cyclic dienes are obtained by heating a mixture of from 35 to 96% by weight of cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene and/or methyldicyclopentadiene, which may or may not be partially replaced by methylcyclopentadiene or tricyclopentadiene or methyltricyclopentadiene, from 1 to 30% by weight of maleic anhydride, maleic acid or a monoalkyl maleate, which maleic acid or maleic acid derivatives may be partially replaced by other alpha , beta -olefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids or dicarboxylic acids of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, and from 3 to 45% by weight of one or more vinyl-aromatics to 230 DEG -320 DEG C, during which heating the mixture does not remain at from 30 DEG to 230 DEG C for more than 5 hours, and preferably for not more than 2 hours. The copolymers may be used as binders for printing inks and coatings, and as additives in adhesives.
