Abstract: Polyether polyols (I) produced by reacting polyfunctional alcohols with ethylene oxide or an alkylene oxide mixture comprising mainly ethylene oxide are used to reduce the flame retardant content of hard polyurethane foams. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) process for producing flame-retarded hard polyurethane foams by reacting a polyisocyanate with a polyol component comprising a compound with two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms, a flame retardant, a blowing agent and a catalyst, where the polyol component includes 13-45 wt.% of a polyether polyol of type (I); and (2) hard polyurethane foams obtainable by the process of (1).

Abstract: Polyurethane rigid foam material (I), obtained by reacting polyisocyanate (a) with a compound (b) having a isocyanate group reactive hydrogen atoms (e), a propellant (c) and flame protective mixture (d) comprising oxyalkylated alkyl phosphonic acid (d1); non-isocyanate group reactive, phosphor containing flame protective agents having molecular weights of lower or higher than 300 g/mol. Polyurethane rigid foam material (I), obtained by reacting polyisocyanate (a) with a compound (b) having a isocyanate group reactive hydrogen atoms (e), a propellant (c) and flame protective mixture (d) comprising at least an oxyalkylated alkyl phosphonic acid (d1); at least a non-isocyanate group reactive, phosphor containing flame protective agent (d2) having a molecular weight of lower than 300 g/mol; and at least a non-isocyanate group reactive, high molecular, phosphor containing flame protective agent (d3) having a molecular weight of higher than 300 g/mol.
