Abstract: Preparation of ethylene amine comprises reacting a monoethanol amine with ammonia in the presence of a transition metal heterogeneous catalyst; where the catalytic active mass of the catalyst before treating with hydrogen contains oxides of aluminum, copper, nickel or cobalt; where the catalyst is in a bead or rod shape with a diameter of less than 3 mm or in tablet shape with a height of less than 3 mm and as well as in other geometrical forms.
