    Abstract: Water-insoluble condensation products obtainable by condensation of a mixture containing, as essential components, (A) from 80 to 99.9 mol%, based on the total of (A), (B) and (C), of a mixture essentially comprising (a) from 30 to 99 mol% of melamin and (b) from 1 to 70 mol% of a substituted melamin of the formula I in which X, X' and X'' are selected from the group consisting of -NH2, -NHR and -NRR', and X, X' and X'' are not simultaneously -NH2 and R and R' are selected from the group consisting of hydroxy-C2-C10-alkyl, hydroxy-C2-C4-alkyl-(oxa-C2-C4-alkyl)n, where n = 1 to 5, and amino-C2-C12-alkyl, or mixtures or melamins I, (B) from 0.1 to 10 mol%, based on the total of (A), (B) and (C), of a polyurea of the formula II where A is or Y is a C1-C6-alkylene group, n is 0 or 1, X is a C1-C6-alkylene group, a C5-C6-cycloalkylene group, a C1-C6-hydroxyalkylene group or a C4-C18-oxyalkylene group, and R -R are H or CH2OH, and (C) up to 10 mol%, based on the total of (A), (B) and (C), of unsubstituted or C1-C9-alkyl- or hydroxyl-substituted phenols, di- or tri-phenol-substituted C1-C4-alkanes, di(hydroxyphenyl)sulfones, or mixtures of these phenols, with formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing compounds, where the molar ratio between melamins and formaldehyde is in the range from 1:1.15 to 1:4.5.

    Abstract: Aq. soln. (I) of amino resin (II) are claimed, contg. 1-35 wt.% low-mol. wt. quat. ammonium cpd. of formula Rn(R')4-nN+ X- (III) (w.r.t. solids content of I); R = 1-8C alkyl substd. with an 0H or amido gp.; R' = 1-8C alkyl or benzyl; X = anion; n = 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4. Pref., n = 1, 2, 3 or 4, and solids content of (I) is 40-70 wt.%. Pref, (III) is N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-trimethyl -ammonium-chloride (IIIA) or -methyl sulphate, in amt. of 5-20 wt.% w.r.t. solids content; (II) are, e.g. UF or MF resins obtd. by known methods. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful as fast-penetrating impregnating resins for the prodn. of resin-impregnated paper for coating timber materials (claimed). The invention provides resin solns. which penetrate paper rapidly without dilution (contrast prior-art resin solns.), thus enabling increased prodn. rates (for chipboard etc.,); solns. (I) has viscosity 15-150 mPa.s and are stable for 2-20 weeks.
