    Abstract: 1,190,637. Impact-resistant styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 8 Sept., 1967 [10 Sept., 1966], No. 41116/67. Heading C3G. Impact-resistant styrene copolymers are produced by polymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of a homopolymer and/or copolymer of butadiene, wherein at least 40% but less than 100% by weight of the acrylonitrile used is not added until after the homogeneous rubber-monomer phase has formed a disperse phase. The polymerization may be carried out in solution or in bulk, either entirely or until formation of the disperse phase, after which the polymerization may be completed in suspension in an aqueous medium. In the examples, (1) a solution of polybutadiene in styrene and acrylonitrile is polymerized to form a prepolymer, to which are added acrylonitrile and styrene before completion of polymerization in an aqueous medium, (4) a solution of a butadiene-styrene rubber, styrene and acrylonitrile is polymerized as in Example 1, (7) a solution of polybutadiene in styrene, acrylonitrile and ethyl benzene is polymerized continuously in a series of three vessels, acrylonitrile being pumped into the third vessel, (9) a solution of a stereospecific butadiene-styrene rubber in styrene, acrylonitrile and isopropylbenzene is polymerized continuously in a series of five reactors, additional acrylonitrile being supplied to reactors 2 and 3, and (11) the process of Example 9 is repeated, except that the rubber is polybutadiene.

    Abstract: 1293846 Graft polymer blends BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 25 March 1970 [26 March 1969] 14486/70 Heading C3G A moulding composition comprises a blend of (A) an impact resistant polystyrene made by polymerizing styrene monomer material in the presence of a rubbery polymer of isoprene or butadiene and (B) 3 to 30% by weight, based on the whole composition, of a graft polymer obtained by grafting 10 to 60 parts by weight of styrene monomer material on to 90 to 40 parts of a metallized 1,3-diene polymer. In the examples, (A) is polybutadiene grafted in solution with styrene and (B) is prepared by grafting styrene on to polybutadiene, or butadienestyrene copolymer, which has been produced using a butyl lithium catalyst and metallized with an n-butyl lithium/potassium t-butanolate complex. The compositions prepared also contain butyl stearate.

    Abstract: Composition comprises (I) a graft copolymer consisting of (A) a copolymer of 30 to 77 weight % butylacrylate and/or ethylhexylacrylate, 20 to 40% butadiene and 3 to 30% of a vinylalkylether having 1 to 8C atoms in the alkyl residue; the copolymer having been produced by copolymerisation in aqueous emulsion; having grafted thereon (B) 10 to 50 weight % with respect to (A) of styrene or a styrene/acrylonitrile mixture containing up to 30% acrylonitrile; and (II) a 60:40 to 90:10 styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer; the total composition containing 10 to 35% with respect to solid content of the total composition, of component (A); said composition being characterised in that it also contains 0.1 to 5 weight % of 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane homogeneously distributed therein.
