Abstract: Flame-retardant hard foam consisting of isocyanate adducts with a nitrogen content \> 6 wt.%, an ether oxygen content of 0.1-10 wt.% and an acid number of 1.5 and an E2/E3 ratio \> 0.05. E1 = extinction of the isocyanurate band at 1410 cm ; E2 = extinction of the imide band at 715-720 cm ; and E3 = extinction of the aromatic band at 1600 cm An Independent claim is also included for the production of flame-retardant hard foams by reacting optionally modified organic polyisocyanates with compounds (I) which contain isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms in the presence of water and/or other propellants, catalysts and optionally other additives. The compounds (I) comprise 1-99 wt.% of a polyether alcohol with a functionality of \- 1 and a hydroxyl number of 10-500 mg KOH/g. The reaction is performed in the presence of 0.1-25 wt.% of a carboxylic anhydride.
