Abstract: Mixtures of diphenylmethane diisocyanates and polyphenylpolymethylene polyisocyanates (crude MDI) of reduced iodine color number are prepared by reacting the corresponding mixtures of diphenylmethanediamines and polyphenylpolymethylenepolyamines with phosgene in the presence of at least one inert organic solvent at elevated temperature, at least one monohydric or polyhydric polyoxyalkylene alcohol, preferably having a functionality of from 2 to 3, and advantageously having a hydroxyl number of from 20 to 1800, or mixtures thereof in an effective amount, expediently in an amount of from 0.1 to 10% by weight, based on the weight of the crude MDI, being introduced into the reaction mixture when the phosgenation is complete, the phosgene and the inert organic solvent then being removed, up to 5% by weight, based on the weight of crude MDI, of at least one phenol-based antioxidant and/or aryl phosphite being added, if desired to the reaction product, and the reaction mixture being heated.

Abstract: The subjects of the invention are novel carbodiimides and/or oligomeric polycarbodiimides having terminal isocyanate, urethane and/or urea groups, obtainable e.g. by condensation with elimination of carbon dioxide of 1,3-bis(1-methyl-1-isocyanatoethyl)benzene and thereafter optionally partial or complete reaction of the free isocyanate groups of the resulting (poly)carbodiimides with aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic amines, alcohols and/or alkoxypolyoxyalkylene alcohols, a process for their preparation and their use as a stabiliser against the hydrolytic degradation of polyaddition and polycondensation products containing ester groups.

Abstract: Un proceso para preparar mezclas de diisocianatos de difenilmetano y poliisocianatos de polifenilpolimetileno que tienen un numero de color de yodo reducido y un contenido de cloro reducido haciendo reaccionar las mezclas correspondientes de difenilmetandiaminas y polifenilpolimetilenpoliaminas con fosgeno en presencia de por lo menos un solvente orgánico inerte a temperatura elevada, separar el exceso de fosgeno y el solvente después de completarse la fosgenacion y tratar térmicamente el producto de reaccion, en donde una mezcla de agua y por lo menos un alcohol de polioxialquileno monohídrico o polihídrico o una mezcla de los mismos se incorpora en una cantidad efectiva en la mezcla de reaccion después de que se completa la fosgenacion, en presencia o ausencia de fosgeno.

Abstract: Mixtures of diphenylmethane diisocyanates and polyphenylpolymethylene polyisocyanates (crude MDI) having a reduced iodine color number are prepared by reacting the corresponding mixtures of diphenylmethanediamines and polyphenylpolymethylene-polyamines with phosgene in the presence of one or more inert organic solvents at elevated temperatures by a process in which low molecular weight alkanols, polyhydric alcohols, preferably dihydric to octahydric alcohols having a molecular weight of from 60 to 350, or mixtures thereof are incorporated in an effective amount, advantageously in an amount of from 0.01 to 5% by weight, based on the weight of crude MDI, into the reaction mixture after the end of the phosgenation, the phosgene and the inert organic solvent are then separated off, from 0 to 5% by weight, based on the weight of crude MDI, of one or more phenol-based antioxidants and/or aryl phosphite are added to the reaction product, and the reaction mixture is subjected to a thermal treatment.

Abstract: A polylactide is provided having a number average molecular weight of greater than 30,000 or a weight average molecular weight of greater than 60,000, wherein the proportion by weight in the molecular weight range up to 10,000 and in the molecular weight range above 500,000 is in each case from 5 to 15%. The polylactide may be prepared either by adding initiator during the production of the polymer in a plurality of portions at different times and/or at a plurality of locations if the process is carried out continuously or by using both a monofunctional initiator and a polyfunctional initiator or by carrying out the polymerisation in a continuous stirred reactor.
