Abstract: Compsns. consist of mixts. of (a) 100 pts. block copolymer of A-B type, (in which A is a mono-vinyl aromatic block and B a butadiene block), selectively hydrogenated to reduce the olefinic C=C bonds to 5%; B has a 1,2-vinyl content before hydrogenation of 20-70 wt.%; A constitutes 20-50 wt.% of the copolymer, which has Mn 20,000-200,000, (b) 25-300 pts. tackifying resin, and (c) 0-200 pts. rubber extender oil. Used as pressure sensitive adhesives on self-adhesive materials e.g. films, labels, floor and wall coverings, medical plasters and anti-drumming materials. Adhesive has high heat and oxidn. resistance, with lower melt viscosity and better adhesion properties than hydrogenated copolymers of A-B-A type. The bonds show better cohesion than those from unhydrogenated copolymers of A-B type.

Abstract: Hot melt adhesives contg. (A) 50-80 parts mixt. of 80-98 parts of polyisobutylene (I) with mol. wt. (Stavdinger) of 10000-20000 and 20-2 parts polyisobutylene (II) of mol.wt. 100000-180000. (B) 10-35 parts thermoplastic rubbery block copolymer of styrene and a 1,3-diene, with Mn 80000-250000, and (C) 10 to 35 parts tackifying resin with softening pt. 60-120 degrees C. Also equipment for continuous prodn. and processing of such adhesives. Adhesive is used for coating of labels, insulating foils for building, corrosion-protective bandages, etc. The adhesives have good dimensional stability, and no uncontrolled breakdown of the rubber additive occurs during processing. They show esp. high cohesion, are suitable for continuous prodn., and avoid the pollution, explosion and other hazards of solvents-based adhesives.

Abstract: Pressure-sensitive adhesives are manufactured by reacting a mixture of A FROM 10 TO 90% BY WEIGHT OF A POLYOL HAVING A MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF FROM 300 TO 8,000 AND A HYDROXYL NUMBER OF FROM 20 TO 85 AND B FROM 5 TO 60% BY WEIGHT OF AN AMORPHOUS THERMOPLASTIC TACKIFIER RESIN HAVING A SOFTENING POINT OF FROM 40 DEG TO 140 DEG C and a molecular weight of from 200 to 7,500, with C FROM 5 TO 30% BY WEIGHT OF A POLYISOCYANATE MASKED WITH CH-acidic compounds, THE PERCENTAGES BY WEIGHT BEING BASED ON THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF COMPONENTS (A), (B) AND (C).
