Abstract: Thermoplastic elastomer moulding compounds based on a rubber elastic block copolymer are obtained by hydrogenating a styrene-butadiene block copolymer composed of at least one block A that forms a hard phase and contains polymerised styrene units and of at least one elastomer block (B/S) that forms a soft phase and contains polymerised styrene and butadiene units. The glass transition temperature Tg of block A of the styrene-butadiene block copolymer lies above 25 DEG C and that of its block (B/S) lies below 25 DEG C. The phase volume ratio between blocks A and B/S is selected so that the proportion of hard phase in the total block copolymer equals 1 to 40 vol % and the weight percentage of diene is lower than 50 wt %.

Abstract: New thermoplastic moulding material contains the following components: (A) 20-99 wt.,% at least one graft copolymer comprising 30-90 wt.% core (a1) prepd. by polymerisation of a mixt. of 80-99.9 wt.% at least one acrylic acid 1-10C alkyl ester (a11), 20 - 0.01 wt.% copolymerisable, polyfunctional, cross-linking monomer (a12) and 0 - 40 wt.% additional copolymerisable, monoethylenic unsatd. monomer (a13), with 70 - 10 wt.% graft component (a2) prepd. by polymerisation in the presence of (a1) of a monomer mixt. comprising 50 - 100 wt.% styrene cpd. of formula (I) and/or (meth)acrylic acid 1-8C alkyl ester (a21) and 50 - 0 wt.% monofunctional comonomer (a22); (B) 80 - 1 wt.% copolymer prepd. from at least one alpha-olefin and at least one polar comonomer, except vinyl acetate or vinyl aromatic monomers; and (C) 0 - 50 wt.% thermoplastic polymer prepd. by the polymerisation of 50 - 100 wt.% vinyl aromatic monomer and/or (meth)acrylic acid 1-8C alkyl ester (c1) and 50 - 0 wt.% monofunctional comonomer (c2), all wrt. sum of (A), (B) and (C); R1, R2 = H or 1-8C alkyl. Also claimed are (i) prepn. of the moulding material by mixing (A), (B) and (C), (ii) use of the material for the prepn. of moulded articles or films, (iii) films or moulded articles prepd. from the material, and (iv) films with a leather-like appearance.

Abstract: Rubber-elastic block copolymers of at least one hard block A consisting of styrene monomers and at least one elastomeric block (B/A) of styrene monomers and containing dienes, the glass temperature Tg of block A being over 25 DEG C and that of block B/A is under 25 DEG C and the phase volume ratio between block A and block B/A being such that the proportion of the hard phase in the entire block copolymer is 1 to 40 vol %, and the proportion by weight of the diene is under 50 wt.%. The relative proportion of 1,2 bonds of the polydiene in relation to the sum of 1,2 and 1,4 cis/trans-bonds is under 15 %, process for their production by anionic polymerisation by means of lithium alkyl in a non-polar solvent in the presence of a soluble potassium salt and their use for the production of mouldings.

Abstract: A transparent moulding composition containing (i) an anionically-polymerised star block copolymer of structure (A)m-X where A = a segment of total molecular weight 5000-300000 containing polystyrene (molecular weight 3000-230000) and polybutadiene (molecular weight 2000-30000) blocks with sharp or indistinct block transitions; m = 3-15; and X = residue of an m-functional coupler; and/or (ii) a linear block copolymer with at least 2 polystyrene and at least 1 polybutadiene block of molecular weight values as given above is stabilised against light-, atmospheric oxygen- and/or light-induced degradation by the presence (based on the block copolymer weight) of (a) 0.01-1% alpha-tocopherol; (b) 0.1-2% organic phosphite RO3P where R = alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl; and preferably also (c) 0.01-0.1% food-grade light stabiliser. Preferably, the compositions contain block copolymers of structure (A)n-X -(B)p. A has total molecular weight 5000-250000; B is a segment of total molecular weight 5000-75000 with at least 1 polystyrene block (molecular weight 2000-60000) and at least 1 polybutadiene block (molecular weight 2000-30000), the block transition being sharp or indistinct; n + p = 3-15; and X = residue of an n + p-functional coupler, with the provisos that n is at most p and at least 1 polystyrene block in A has at least 1.5 times the molecular weight of at least 1 polystyrene block in segment B.

Abstract: A medical moulded part, in particular a component of a transmission system for perfusion or transfusion purposes, is made of a mixture that contains (P1) 0.1 to 100 % by weight of a rubber-elastic block copolymer made of at least one block S that forms a hard phase and contains polymerised units of a vinyl aromatic monomer and of at least one block B/S that forms a soft phase and contains polymerised units of both a vinyl aromatic monomer (S) and a diene (B). The glass transition temperature Tg of block S is higher than 25 DEG C and that of block B/S is lower than 25 DEG C. The phase volume ratio between block S and block B/S is selected so that the hard phase represents 1 to 40 % by volume of the whole block copolymer and the diene less than 50 % by weight of the whole block copolymer. The mixture also contains (P2) 0 to 99.9 % by weight of a thermoplastic and/or duroplastic polymer; and (P3) 0 to 70 % by weight other additives and auxiliary substances. The sum of the percentages by weight of components P1 to P3 equals 100 %.
