    Abstract: Ethylene polymers are manufactured by polymerizing ethylene under high pressure at high temperatures in an autoclave reactor. The heat of reaction generated by the polymerization is removed, within the reactor, by a cooling system in which the cooling medium is ethylene; the pressure of the monomer in the cooling system should differ by from 0 to 200 bars from the pressure prevailing in the polymerization system, and the temperature of the monomer on entering the cooling system is at least 40 DEG C. lower than the temperature prevailing in the autoclave. The process permits an increase in the conversion achieved in the polymerization reaction.

    Abstract: Water-emulsifiable hard waxes consisting of homogeneous terpolymers of ethylene with-based on weight of terpolymer-from 1 to 8% by weight of C3-C8-olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids and from 0.5 to 10% by weight of C1-C12-alkyl esters of such unsaturated carboxylic acids and having a Staudinger index, determined according to DIN 53,728, of from 5 to 55, an acid number of from 8 to 62 and a Höppler hardness, measured by DFG standard method M-III-9a(57), at 23 DEG C., of from 250 to 800 bar, are obtained by copolymerizing ethylene with olefinically unsaturated C3-C8-carboxylic acids and esters of such acids with C1-C12-alkanols in a continuous process in the presence of a free radical initiator at from 150 DEG to 300 DEG C. under a pressure of from 1,000 to 3,000 bar, using a weight ratio of ethylene:acid:acrylate of from 500:1:1 to 20:1:1, in a one-phase polymerization medium in which the monomers are soluble, in the presence of from 0.01 to 8% by weight, based on the sum of the monomers, of a regulator, from 3 to 25% by weight of the ethylene being converted and the copolymer formed being removed continuously from the reaction zone.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of ethylene polymers in a tubular polymerisation system at pressures of from 500 to 5000 bar and temperatures of from 50 to 450 DEG C in the presence of polymerisation initiators which decompose to form free radicals, in which a mixture of ethylene, oxygen, regulator and optionally comonomers is fed to the polymerisation system at its inlet point (A) and simultaneously to a second point (C) after the inlet point along the polymerisation system, where the reaction temperature has exceeded a maximum, and in which, in addition, an initiator whose half-value temperature, measured in benzene as solvent, is above 140 DEG C is metered in at a further point (B) of the reactor, at which the temperature of the oxygen-initiated reaction has already exceeded the maximum and which is between the inlet points (A and C). The concentration of the additionally metered-in initiator is from 0.01 to 20 mol ppm, based on the entire amount of ethylene fed to the polymerisation system. The additionally metered-in initiator is an organic peroxide, an organic hydroperoxide or a mixture of organic peroxide and hydroperoxide.
