    Abstract: Urea derivs. of formula RR1N-CONH-X-A-Y-NHCO-NRR2 (IA/B) are claimed R = H. X, Y = 2-10C linear or branched alkyl (at least one of X and Y must contain 3 C atoms). A = ureidyl or alkylenebis-ureidyl gp. of formula -N(CONHR3)-(-D-N(CONHR4)m-(with m = 0 or 1; D = 1-6C alkyl, if m = 1, X or Y are different from D, or X, Y and A = 1-4C alk(ox)yl, hydroxyalkyl or ureidoelkyl or OH, the ureido gp in IB can also be hydroxymethylated R3, R4 = H or CH2OH) 1-12C substd. alkylene or a polyoxyalkylene of formula -Y-(O-W)z-O-V- (with V, W = 2-6C alkylene; Z = 2-6). R1, R2 = H (in cpd. IA) or H or CH2OH (in IB), in cpd. (IB), at least 1 of the gps. R1-R4 = CH2OH. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of (I) by reaction of a polyamine of formula H2N-X-A-Y-NH2 (II) in aq. soln. with urea to give (IA), followed by reaction with formaldehyde in aq. soln. at pH above 7 to give (IB). (II) is N,N'-bis- (3-aminopropyl)- ethylenediamine (IIA), 4-amino- methyl-1, 8-diamino- octane or neopentane-diamine. USE/ADVANTAGE - (IA and IB) are useful as additives for binders for derived timber prods., and (IB) are also useful as binders for such prods. (claimed). As additives, they prolong the shelf life of binder solns.; the finished wood prods. have increased strength and low formaldehyde emission (w.r.t. prior-art binders). (5pp Dwg.No.O/O)

    Abstract: 1281376 Coated metals BADISCHE ANILIN & SODA FABRIK AG 26 Sept 1969 [27 Sept 1968] 47539/69 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] A mixture of an aminoplast resin, e.g. 10 parts by weight of a melamine-formaldehydebutanol condensation product, a hardening agent, and 10 parts by weight of an N,N- disubstituted carbamyl phosphonate diester of the formula:- wherein R 1 and R 3 are selected from alkyl radicals having 1 to 6 carbon atoms which may be substituted by one or more halogen atoms, OH groups and/or C 1 -C 3 alkoxy groups, or are C 3 -C 6 alkenyl radicals, or the two R 1 radicals together with the adjacent O atoms and the P atom form a 5 or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, R 2 is H, a C 1 -C 5 alkyl radical, or is OH, Cl or Br and n is 0, 1, 2, or 3 is used for coating metals, the mixture being brushed on to the metal and then heated at 150-280‹C to give a flame-resistant coating.
