Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transparent molded polyisocyanate polyaddition product usable as a glass substitute. SOLUTION: This transparent molded polyisocyanate polyaddition product is obtained by using a mixture having average functional value larger than 3 and 300-950 mg KOH/g average hydroxyl number as (b) a compound having reactivity to an isocyanate in the presence of (a) an isocyanate, (b) a compound having reactivity to an isocyanate, optionally (c) a catalyst and (d) an auxiliary and/or an additive.

Abstract: A process for the production of compact, transparent polyisocyanate-polyaddition products by reacting (a) isocyanates with (b) compounds which react with isocyanates, optionally in the presence of catalysts and/or additives etc., in which (b) is a mixture with an average functionality of more than 3 and an average hydroxyl number of 300-950 mg KOH/g. Independent claims are also included for (a) compact, transparent polyisocyanate-polyaddition products obtained by this process; and (b) sun roofs, front, rear and side windows for cars or aircraft, and lamp covers containing these products.
