Abstract: New block copolymers (I) comprise a polyisobutenyl-succinic acid mono-esterified with a (co)polyalkylene oxide monoalkyl or monoaryl ether (i.e. a lipophilic polyisobutene block bonded to a hydrophilic polyoxyalkylene block via a succinic acid linker). Polyisobutenyl-succinic acid derivatives of formula (I) are new. [Image] L : polyisobutenyl group of number average molecular weight (Mn) 200-20000; M+>H+> or an equivalent of alkali(ne earth) metal, ammonium or mono- or polyalkylammonium ion; R : group formed from oxyethylene, oxypropylene and/or oxybutylene units; A : methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl or aryl (optionally substituted). An independent claim is included for the preparation of the above copolymers.
