Abstract: Bufadienolide derivs. of formula (I) are new. (I) can be prepd. by the addition of methylene to scillarenin or to 3-epi-scillarenin and then opt. oxidising and again reducing the cpds. obtd. (I) have positive inotropic and cardiovascular properties. (I) are esp. suitable in the prepn. of 4,5-methanolbufadienolide rhamnosides which are more effective cardiac glycosides with an increased therapeutic breadth compared to previously used cpds..
