Abstract: The integrated production of 2-ethylhexanol (I), 2-ethylhexan-1,3-diol (II) and 2,4-diethyloctan-1,5-diol (III) comprises: (1) an aldol reaction of butyraldehyde; (2) catalytic hydrogenation; (3) separating most of (I); and (4) distilling the residue. The integrated production of 2-ethylhexanol (I), 2-ethylhexan-1,3-diol (II) and 2,4-diethyloctan-1,5-diol (III) comprises: (1) an aldol reaction of butyraldehyde; (2) catalytic hydrogenation; (3) separating most of (I); (4) distilling the residue, into: (a) (I)-(II)-(III)-enriched top fraction (T1) and depleted sump fraction (d1); or (b) (I) and (I)-depleted sump fraction (S2) ((d2)); and (5) separate recovery of: (a) (I), (II) and (III) from (T1) ((e1)); or (b) (II) and (III) from (S2) ((e2)). The sump temperature in (d1) and (e2) is 200 deg C maximum.
