Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polymer dispersant high in polymer volume concentration and reduced fine flocculate content by emulsifying a monomer in the aqueous dispersant for initiation polymer(s) followed by-continuously feeding the polymerization system with the resultant emulsion. SOLUTION: An ethylene-based unsaturated monomer, except vinyl halides and vinylidene halides, is subjected to radical emulsion polymerization in the presence of (A) at least one kind of initiator and (B) at least one kind of initiation polymer to obtain the objective low-viscosity aqueous polymer dispersant 250vol.% in polymer volume concentration. In this case, a large proportion of the monomer is emulsified in the aqueous dispersant for the component B, and the resultant emulsion is continuously fed to the polymerization system. It is preferable that the amount of the component B to be used is 0.01-10wt.% based on the monomer to be used and the average particle diameter of the component B is

Abstract:
Production of aqueous polymer dispersions with low viscosity and a polymer volume concentration NOTLESS 50 vol.% comprises free radical emulsion polymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, except vinylidene halides, in the presence of initiator(s) and a starting polymer. Most of the monomers are emulsified in an aqueous dispersion of the starting polymer and this emulsion is transferred continuously to the polymerisation reaction.

Abstract:
Aq. butadience copolymer dispersion are prepd. by polymerisation of butadiene with standard co-monomers in aq. emulsion at 115-170 (120-150) esp. 125-140degrees C in presence of standard emulsifiers and radical-forming polymerisation initiators. The dispersions are used e.g. as additives to hydraulic binders such as gypsum- or cement mortars, binders for leather coatings, paints for paper, textile printing pastes, and as clear, adhesive films on glass. Stable dispersions are formed which contain a smaller amt. of ill-smelling by-products, and form films having a lower hardness than films of same polymer compsn. prepd. from dispersions polymerised at =100degrees C.

1412203 Emulsion polymerization BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 23 Feb 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 8941/73 Heading C3P The emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers is effected using as emulsifier a sulphonium salt of the formula in which X is hydrogen or methyl and R 1 to R 3 are #-hydroxyalkyl, alkyl or aralkyl groups containing a total of 10-25 carbons provided at least one is #-hydroxyalkyl, or an oxidation product of such a sulphonium salt. In examples the following monomers are copolymerized (1) vinylidene chloride/ethyl acrylate, (2) nbutyl acrylate / acrylonitrile / styrene / N,N- dimethyl aminoethyl acrylate (in sulphuric acid) and (3) vinylidene chloride/n-butyl acrylate / N - vinyl - N - methylimidazolium methosulphate.
