Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the continuous polymerisation of vinyl chloride under conventional conditions of pressure and temperature in the presence of water, an emulsifier, a water-soluble inorganic initiator, where a mixture is prepared from at least some of the total amount of the water and at least some of the total amount of the emulsifier and in addition an aliphatic alcohol having 12 to 30 carbon atoms, and this mixture is heated to temperatures above the melting point of the aliphatic alcohol with adequate stirring. This mixture (predispersion) is combined in a reaction zone with the remainder of the water and of the emulsifier, and the total amount of monomers and initiator, and is then polymerised. A proportion of the resultant reaction mixture is withdrawn from the reaction zone and used to obtain the polymer in a conventional manner. The polymers prepared according to the invention are used for the preparation of plastisols.
