Abstract: A dithionite, partic. Na dithionite, is stabilised by addn. of a combination of (a) a metallic soap of oleic acid and/or its sarcoside and/or an invert soap; (b) a 4-6C dicarboxylic acid and/or a fatty alcohol ether-sulphate of formula R'-O-CH2-CH2-O-CH2-CH2-O-SO3H (where R1 is a 12-14C hydrocarbyl). The dithionite is used e.g. in vat dyeing and in the paper industry. The stabilised dithionite is very stable w.r.t. humidity and air, is practically free from dust, and has excellent flow characteristics. It dissolves completely in water.

Abstract: The alkanoic acid esters are prepared by anodic acyloxylation of aromatic or aromatic/heterocyclic compounds with an alkanoic acid in the presence of a supporting electrolyte of the formula Anodes are used which contain 40 to 95 per cent by weight of graphite and 60 to 5 per cent by weight of plastic. The substituents in the formula have the meanings specified in Claim 1. In the method of preparation, the electrolysis of alkanoic acid as a side reaction is avoided.

Abstract: In an electrolysis cell with anodes and cathodes which are provided with openings, the cathode chamber is separated from the anode chamber by a diaphragm. The latter consists of a porous layer of oxides or oxidic compounds of the elements of sub-group 4B of the periodic table, of aluminum, of the rare earths or of chromium. The diaphragm is applied to that side of one of the electrodes which faces the counter-electrode.

Abstract: The parent patent describes an anode for electrochemical processes, consiting of a carrier made of metal which can be electrochemically passivated. Mtal is covered by a layer of the nitride of metal and then by a layer of MnO2. In this addn. the MnO2 also contains PbO2 and/or V2O5, where the mole. ratio MnO2:(PbO2 and/or V2O5) is 1:1 to 9:1. The addn. of various amts. of PbO2 and/or V2O5 alters the potential (P) of the anode w.r.t. a standard hydrogen electrode. This ability to vary (P) is very convenient as it can be adjusted to suit a particular reaction; and the anodes only need baking at low temps., e.g. 150-200 degrees C.

Abstract: Accumulator has two electrodes of the first type applied to base electrodes, the anode being MnO2 electrode, and the electrolyte being acid and contg. Cl-. The active mass on the cathode side is pref. Zn, Fe, Mn, or Cd, whereas the anode side of the base electrode pref. possesses a porous structure with pore-radii 0.1-2 mm and pore vol. 20-70%. After charging, the electrolyte pref. has a pH value below 1 and, after discharge, a pH below 5. The electrolyte pref. contains min. 0.1 mole/l chloride ions.
