    Abstract: Process for the preparation of 5-fluorobenzoxazinones (I) in which R is hydrogen, halogen, C1- to C3-alkyl, m- or p-trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, chlorodifluoromethoxy, difluoromethoxy, tetrafluoroethoxy, trifluoromethylmercapto or chlorodifluoromethylmercapto, by reaction of corresponding, especially 5-chloro- or 5-bromo-substituted benzoxazinones (II) with, in particular, potassium fluoride in the presence of a solvent, characterised in that the reaction is carried out with exclusion of water and using previously dried starting materials, the drying preferably being carried out by treatment with an acid halide, e.g. thionyl chloride.
