Abstract: Mfre. of styrene oxide by direct oxidn. of styrene with mol. oxygen in liquid phase, in presence of a sol. metal catalyst comprising a Group VIb or VIIb metal cpd. or an Fe-, Co- or Ni-cpd. is clamined. Fe-ethylhexanate is suitable. Catalyst is easier to handle than prior-art per-acid catalysts. Undesirable polymer formation is minimised.
