    Abstract: A device for increasing the speed of flow, is used in the circulating pit of an effluent clarification plant, in which a partition divides the pit to promote flow around it and the liquid is gasified or aerated by agitators. Teh deflection zone immediately adjacent to the end of the partition is shielded from the field of nfluence of hte agitator by a semi-rotationally symmetrical hollow object. Pref. where surface agitators are used, the hollow object is conical. In an activated sludge tank, the amt. of agitation required for biologicla purposes is frequently less than the amt. required to promote sufficient speed of circulation to prevent settling of the sludge. The reason for this is the recirculating effect in the immediate vicinity of each agitator. By protecting the ends of the partition walls, this recirculating effect is suppressed and an improved circulation throughout the tank is achieved for a given degree of power supplied to the agitators.

    Abstract: A process for drawing in and compressing gases and mixing the same with liquid material, wherein the gases are first premixed with one or more liquid jets at a velocity of from 10 to 70 m/sec, the smallest cross-sectional area of the mixing nozzle being at a distance from the propulsive jet which is equal to from 1 to 10 times the smallest hydraulic diameter of the mixing nozzle, which smallest cross-sectional area of the mixing nozzle is equal to from 1.5 to 15 times the smallest cross-sectional area of the propulsive jet. The two-phase liquid mixture is passed through the mixing nozzle to the narrowest point of an impulse exchange tube disposed in the liquid medium, which impulse exchange tube is open at its inlet and outlet and is preferably provided with a diffuser. The smallest cross-sectional area of the impulse exchange tube is equal to from 1.2 to 20 times the smallest cross-sectional area of the mixing nozzle and the length of the impulse exchange tube is up to 20 times its smallest hydraulic diameter.

    Abstract: Parent patent 2525020 described a mixer for fluid materials, consisting of a tube with mixing elements in the shape of inclined intersecting guide surfaces which are provided with passage openings. These split the fluid stream into many side streams. Each element is elliptical, with an angle of 30 degrees - 60 degrees to the centre line; an elliptical opening with a minor axis amounting to 0.4-0.6 times the tube dia. is punched out and the punched out disc is welded at right angles to the main element. The circular holes in the elements pref. have the punched out part adhering to the element but at an acute angle.
