    Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of hydrocarbon oils from coal by cracking hydrogenation under pressure in two stages. In the first stage (carried out in the bottom phase) milled coal, together with finely divided catalysts, is pasted with an oil mixture, and the slurry is hydrogenated by heating to 380 DEG -440 DEG C. under a hydrogen pressure of from 200 to 700 bar. The gaseous and liquid reaction products are separated from the solid products and subjected to a further hydrogenation (this time in the gas phase), using a fixed hydrogenation catalyst. The heat of the hydrogenated product is indirectly and separately transferred to the coal/oil mixture and the hydrogen by heat exchange in not less than three stages.

    Abstract: Hydroxylammonium salts are manufactured by a process comprising the catalytic reduction of nitric oxide with hydrogen in a dilute aqueous solution of a mineral acid in the presence of a suspended platinum catalyst at an elevated temperature, wherein the reaction mixture is recycled and the gas mixture, containing nitric oxide and hydrogen, present in the gas space above the reaction zone, is introduced, by means of one or more downwardly directed jets of liquid, consisting of the recycled reaction mixture and issuing from a nozzle orifice, into one or more circulation zones which are present in the reaction zone, are open at both sides, extend in the direction of the entering jet of liquid and are completely covered by the reaction mixture, the reaction mixture leaving the bottom of the circulation zone and containing unconverted gases is deflected, passed upwards in the annular zone externally surrounding the circulation zone, and at the same time reaction mixture of low gas content is recycled from a separation zone located under the reaction zone.

    Abstract: A process for drawing in and compressing gases and mixing the same with liquid material, wherein the gases are first premixed with one or more liquid jets at a velocity of from 10 to 70 m/sec, the smallest cross-sectional area of the mixing nozzle being at a distance from the propulsive jet which is equal to from 1 to 10 times the smallest hydraulic diameter of the mixing nozzle, which smallest cross-sectional area of the mixing nozzle is equal to from 1.5 to 15 times the smallest cross-sectional area of the propulsive jet. The two-phase liquid mixture is passed through the mixing nozzle to the narrowest point of an impulse exchange tube disposed in the liquid medium, which impulse exchange tube is open at its inlet and outlet and is preferably provided with a diffuser. The smallest cross-sectional area of the impulse exchange tube is equal to from 1.2 to 20 times the smallest cross-sectional area of the mixing nozzle and the length of the impulse exchange tube is up to 20 times its smallest hydraulic diameter.

    Abstract: Mechanical separating apparatus for use in hydrogenation plants for coal and heavy oil at pressures of 150 to 700 bar and temperatures of 350 to 500 DEG C with a shell-side inlet connection (6) for the hydrogenated product which comes, for example, from a liquid-phase reactor, having another shell-side connection (9) for the addition of circulating gas, an outlet connection (12) arranged in the lower part of the separating apparatus for the liquid/solid phase, and an outlet connection (11) arranged on top for the gaseous phase, having the following features: a) The pressure vessel (1) is made of low-alloy steel (2.25% Cr, 1% Mo) with a wall thickness of between 100 and 400 mm and an outside diameter of between 1200 and 3000 mm. b) The pressure vessel (1) is surrounded by a concentric cylinder (13) of unalloyed steel having a wall thickness of between 10 and 20 mm, the distance between the pressure vessel (1) and the concentric cylinder (13) being between 40 and 150 mm. c) The hydrogenated product, which enters into the inside of the pressure vessel (1) via the inlet connection (6) is deflected tangentially downward by baffles (7, 8). d) The pressure vessel (1) is closed in its lower part by a cone (4) which passes into the outlet connection (12) for the liquid/solid phase. In the upper part the pressure vessel (1) is closed by a spherical plate (2) and a flat cover (3).
