Abstract:
Polyolefin compositions useful for construction articles for outdoor use, for instance house siding, cladding, soffit or roofing. The compositions comprise a polyolefin substrate which has incorporated therein one or more additives selected from the group consisting of a) one or more ultraviolet light absorbers, b) one or more hindered amine light stabilizers and c) one or more antioxidants. Advantageously, the polyolefin substrate also has incorporated therein d) one or more colorants, e) one or more fillers, f) one or more flame retardants and optionally g) one or more antimicrobial compounds. The compositions exhibit certain performance levels according to standard tests, for example impact strength of > 35 in-lb per ASTM D4226, coefficient of linear thermal expansion of
Abstract:
Disclosed are liquid compositions comprising a) a compound of formula (I) and b) a compound of formula (II) where R is hydrogen or methyl, n and n' are independently an integer from 1 to 45 and R1, R2 and R3 are each independently hydrogen, straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 12 carbon atoms, phenylalkyl of 7 to 9 carbon atoms, phenylalkyl of 7 to 9 carbon atoms substituted on the phenyl ring by one to three straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 12 carbon atoms or R1, R2 and R3 are each independently -(CH2 ) k -COOR 4 where k is 0, 1 or 2 and R4 is hydrogen or straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 20 carbon atoms. The compositions comprising oxyalkylene bridged bis-and tris-phosphite esters of formulae I and II are liquid at ambient conditions and are effective stabilizers for polyolefins.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to two processes for providing stable liquid blends of a) pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, b) octadecyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate and c) tris-(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl)phosphite. The first process comprises preparing a solid mixture comprising about 2 parts to about 3 parts by weight a), about 2 parts to about 3 parts by weight b) and about 2 parts to about 12 parts by weight c), heating the mixture to 185° C. or higher for a sufficient time to obtain a clear liquid blend of a), b) and c), cooling the liquid blend to a temperature of from 90° C. to 140° C. and maintaining the liquid blend at a temperature of from 90° C. to 140° C. The second process comprises preparing a solid mixture comprising about 2 parts to about 3 parts by weight a) and about 2 parts to about 3 parts by weight b), heating the mixture to 90° C. or higher for a sufficient time to obtain a clear liquid mixture of a) and b), adding about 2 parts to about 12 parts by weight c) thereto to obtain a clear liquid blend of a), b) and c) and maintaining the liquid blend at a temperature of from 90° C. to 140° C. The liquid blends of a), b) and c) are stable at the temperature at which they are maintained for greater than 120 hours.
