Said paper coating slips are characterized in that at least 40 percent by weight of the total amount of binders a) are provided in the form of a synthetic, water-soluble, anionic polymer while less than 50 percent by weight of the total amount of binders a) are provided in the form of emulsion polymers.
Abstract:
Paper coating compositions comprise inorganic pigments and an aqueous polymeric dispersion comprising dispersed polymeric particles. The polymers are obtainable by polymerization of a first monomer that is liquid at room temperature, has a boiling point of at least 50° C. and a glass transition temperature of at least 20° C. as homopolymer, and a second monomer that is gaseous at room temperature, has a boiling point of below 0° C. and a glass transition temperature of below −30° C. as homopolymer. The dispersed polymeric particles have an average size of below 150 nm and a glass transition temperature in the range from −10 to +30° C.
Abstract:
Pigment-free aqueous polymeric dispersion labelled with fluorescent dyes and having a Brookfield (spindle 3, 23°C) viscosity of 500 to 900 mPas, containing, all based on the solids content of the polymeric dispersion, (A) 1% to 99% by weight of at least one kind of water-soluble and/or dispersible polymers, (B) 1% to 20% by weight of at least one kind of water-dispersible polymeric particles containing at least one fluorescent dye, and (C) 0.001% to 3% by weight of at least one thickener; its production; and its use.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an aqueous polymer dispersion containing a polymer, which can be produced by a radically initiated emulsion polymerization from ethylenically unsaturated, radically polymerizable monomers, wherein the polymerization of the monomers is carried out in the presence of a specific molecular weight regulator composition. The molecular weight regulator composition contains at least one mercaptoalkylcarboxylic acid ester of a C2 to C4 carboxylic acid and at least one oligomeric compound of formula R1-X-(A-S-)n-A-Y-R2, where R1 and R2 denote H or CH3-(CH2)0-2-C(=0)-, X and Y denote an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, A denotes a divalent C1- to C18-alkylene group, and n denotes a number from 1 to 8. The invention further relates to a method for producing the aqueous polymer dispersion. The polymer dispersion can be used as a binder, adhesive, sizing agent for fibers, for producing coatings or for producing paper coating compounds.
