    Abstract: Filtration processes, especially for water filtration wherein a liquid permeates an asymmetric polymer membrane, are effectively carried out using membranes equipped within organic particles of zinc oxide, or a composite comprising one oxide selected from zinc oxide, aluminum oxide, titanium oxide, silicium oxide, zirconium oxide, and a metal and/or further metal oxide. These particles are largely removed by cleaning operations using chemically enhanced backwash. The processes show improved permeate flux, improved membrane stability, and permit reduced maintenance intervals of filter modules.
