Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing aminopolycarboxylates starting from the corresponding polyalkanol amines by means of oxidative dehydration in the presence of a catalyst containing 1 to 90 wt.% copper, with respect to the total weight of the catalyst, using a base. The method is characterized in that the polyalkanol amine is first partially reacted into a reaction mixture containing the aminopolycarboxylate at a temperature ranging from 140 to 180 °C until at least 10 to 90 mol% of the polyalkanol amine is reacted. The reaction is then continued at an increased temperature.
