Abstract: The invention relates to an aqueous composition containing (a) polymers having primary amino groups and/or amidine groups with a total content of said groups of =1.5 meq/g polymer and (b) 0.01 - 50 mol-% 1,4-cyclohexandion (b) based on the total amount of primary amino groups and amidine groups of the polymers. The aqueous composition has a pH-value =6. The invention also relates to the use thereof as a solidifying agent and to a method for producing paper and cardboard, to the use of the aqueous composition and to the thus produced paper and cardboard.
