A finely divided, starch-containing polymer dispersion which is obtainable by free radical emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of at least one redox initiator and starch, wherein (a) from 0 to less than 40% by weight of at least one optionally substituted styrene, (b) from greater than 60 to 100% by weight of at least one C1-C12-alkyl acrylate and/or C1-C12-alkyl methacrylate, (c) from 0 to 10% by weight of at least one other ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable monomer, are used as the ethylenically unsaturated monomers, the sum (a) + (b) + (c) being 100% and being based on the active monomer content and (d) from 15 to 40% by weight of at least one degraded starch which has a molar mass Mw of from 1000 to 65 000 g/mol, based on the total weight of solids content of components (a) + (b) + (c) + (d), are used as the starch, and the polymerization being carried out in the presence of at least 0.01% by weight, based on the monomers used, of at least one terpene containing chain-transfer agent, and in which the polymer dispersion optionally comprises an aluminium compound. The use of the finely divided, starch-containing polymer dispersions as sizes for paper, board and cardboard is also claimed.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide enzymatic formulations comprising a polypeptide having amylase activity for producing a paper product. Also provided are aqueous surface treatment compositions for paper and board comprising degraded starch. Further provided are methods for producing paper and board using the aqueous surface treatment composition, and to corrugated boards produced from this paper.

An antifoaming agent, based on an oil-in-water emulsion in which the oil phase accounts for from 5-50% by weight of the emulsion, where the oil phase includes: (a) at least one selected from the group consisting of (a1) an alcohol of not less than 12 carbon atoms and (a2) a C1-C36-carboxylic acid, a distillation residue; (d) a component including (d1) a polyglyceryl ester and (d2) a C18-C30 alkyl behenate, wherein the component (d) accounts for 1-80% by weight of the oil phase of the emulsion.

The present invention which provides antifoaming agents for the paper industry, based on oil-in- water emulsions, in which the oil phase accounts for from 5 to 50% by weight of the emulsion if the oil phase of the emulsions contains (a) an alcohol of not less than 12 carbon atoms, fatty esters of alcohols of not less than 22 carbon atoms and C1-C36-carboxylic acids, distillation residues which are obtainable in the preparation of alcohols having a relatively large number of carbon atoms by the oxo synthesis or by the Ziegler method and which may furthermore be alkoxylated, a mixture of the stated compounds and (b) optionally a fatty ester of a C12-C22-carboxylic acid with a monohydric to trihydric C1-C18-alcohol and, (c) optionally a hydrocarbon having a boiling point above 200°C or a fatty acid of 12 to 22 carbon atoms, in combination with from 1 to 80% by weight of component (d) comprising (d1) polyglyceryl esters which are obtainable by not less than 20% esterification of a polyglycerol mixture of from 0 to 10% by weight of monoglycerol, from 15 to 40% by weight of diglycerol, from 30 to 55% by weight of triglycerol, from 10 to 25% by weight of tetraglycerol, from 0 to 15% by weight of pentaglycerol, from 0 to 10% by weight of hexaglycerol and from 0 to 5% by weight of polyglycerols having higher degrees of condensation with one or more fatty acids of 12 to 36 carbon atoms; and (d2) C18-C30 alkyl behenate. The invention relates to an aqueous composition containing (a) polymers having primary amino groups and/or amidine groups with a total content of said groups of =1.5 meq/g polymer and (b) 0.01 - 50 mol-% 1,4-cyclohexandion (b) based on the total amount of primary amino groups and amidine groups of the polymers. The aqueous composition has a pH-value =6. The invention also relates to the use thereof as a solidifying agent and to a method for producing paper and cardboard, to the use of the aqueous composition and to the thus produced paper and cardboard.

Dispersiones acuosas de dímeros de alquilceteno, que contienen, al menos, un 15% en peso de un dímero de alquilceteno así como, al menos, un almidón catiónico soluble en agua, sulfato de aluminio y, al menos, un producto de condensación formado por el ácido naftalinsulfónico y el formaldehído o por el ácido lignosulfónico o respectivamente sus sales, caracterizadas porque las dispersiones contienen, referido respectivamente al dímero de alquilceteno, desde un 2 hasta un 50% en peso de sulfato de aluminio, conteniendo las dispersiones, además, entre un 0,1 y un 5% en peso de un ácido carboxílico saturado con 1 hasta 10 átomos de carbono, de ácido bencenosulfónico, de ácido ptoluenosulfónico y/o de un ácido mineral, con un contenido en sulfato de aluminio comprendido entre un 2 y un 15% en peso.
