Abstract: The present invention relates generally to an apparatus and method for accomplishing heat transfer and/or power conversion, or chemical process including conversions and separations. There is disclosed a microcomponent chemical process comprising: performing at least one chemical process unit operation which is a chemical conversion or chemical separation in a first laminate having at least one first microcomponent (2,4) by receiving a chemical reactant and rejecting a product, and performing an additional unit operation in at least one second microcomponent, the chemical process unit operation and the additional unit operation producing a system operation, and exchanging heat with the at least one first microcomponent (2,4), wherein the at least one first microcomponent comprises a plurality of lands (10) and flow paths (3,5,6,8) arranged as a pair of headers and a plurality of laterals.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the steam reforming of a hydrocarbon, comprising: passing a feed stream comprising hydrocarbon gas and steam into at least one reaction chamber; said reaction chamber comprising a catalyst that catalyzes the reaction of said hydrocarbon gas and steam to produce a gaseous mixture comprising at least carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas; wherein the contact time of the reactant with the catalyst is less than 0.3 seconds; transferring heat from at least one heat exchanger into the at least one reaction chamber; and producing more than 0.01 SLPM of hydrogen gas per cubic centimeter of reactor volume, where reactor volume is defined as the sum of the volume of the reaction chamber(s) and heat exchange chamber(s) including the volume of chamber walls.

Abstract: The invention is a microcomponent sheet architecture wherein macroscale unit processes are performed by microscale components. The sheet architecture may be a single laminate with a plurality of separate microcomponent sections or the sheet architecture may be a plurality of laminates with one or more microcomponent sections on each laminate. Each microcomponent or plurality of like microcomponents perform at least one unit operation. A first laminate having a plurality of like first microcomponents is combined with at least a second laminate having a plurality of like second microcomponents thereby combining at least two unit operations to achieve a system operation.
