Abstract:
Systems and related methods for sensing the presence of targeted cellular blood species during extracorporeal blood separation and processing which use a centrifuge station (20) and a pump and valve station (30). The systems and methods tailor sensing parameters to the particular objectives of particular procedures selected to be accomplished. Different cellular blood species are targeted for detection for different selected blood processing procedures by the centrifuge station (20) and pump and valve station (30). The systems and methods differentiate among different cellular blood species for detection, according to the blood processing procedures selected.
Abstract:
A blood separation system (10) is described. The system comprises a device (14, 18) which, in use, operates to separate whole blood into red blood cells and plasma, a whole blood inlet line (290) for conveying a flow of whole blood into the device, a plasma collection line (292) for conveying a flow of plasma from the device, and a red blood cell collection line (294) for conveying a flow of red blood cells from the device. A first sensing assembly (334) including a first sensor in the plasma collection line is provided which in use operates to detect a characteristic of plasma in the flow of plasma and to generate a first output. A second sensing assembly (336) including a second sensor in the red blood cell collection line is provided which in use operates to detect a characteristic of red blood cells in the flow of red blood cells and to generate a second output. A controller (16) operates to control flows in the plasma collection line and the red blood cell collection line based upon the first and second outputs.

Abstract:
A home medical device system includes a plurality of home therapy machines that perform a home therapy on a patient at a home or dwelling of the patient. Each home therapy machine includes a connectivity agent installed thereon. A connectivity server is located remote from the home or dwelling of the patient. The connectivity agent of each home therapy machine allows the home therapy machine to connect to the connectivity server and transfers data to and from the connectivity server only when the connectivity agent is activated. The connectivity agent is deactivated during the home therapy to prevent the home therapy machine from sending any data to or receiving any data from the connectivity server during the home therapy. A system hub is coupled to the home therapy machines through the connectivity server. A web portal is configured to access the system hub. A plurality of clinics is connected to the system hub via the web portal. A website is accessible via the web portal. The website includes a patient portion available to patients using the plurality of home therapy machines and a clinician portion that enables the clinics to manage the home therapy machines.

Abstract:
An optical access disconnect system (10) is useful for detecting the presence of blood. The optical access disconnect system includes one or more optical sensors (14) placed near an access site of a patient, the optical sensors suitable for detecting the presence of blood, especially by detecting a difference in light reflected or absorbed by blood. The optical access disconnect system may also be used as an interlock to assure compliance. A detector may be placed adjacent the access site to detect the access needle, or an object or mark on the access needle or fluid line. A therapy machine, such as a dialysis machine, may be programmed not to start or continue operation unless the needle or.fluid line is detected. The detector may be one of the optical sensors, calibrated or adjusted to detect a mark on the needle or access line, or may be another type of detector.
Abstract:
A system for performing renal therapy comprising: a plurality of home therapy machines each configured to perform a home therapy on a patient at a home or dwelling of the patient, wherein each home therapy machine includes at least one processor operating a connectivity agent; a connectivity server located remote from the home or dwelling of the patient, wherein the connectivity agent of each home therapy machine allows the home therapy machine to connect to the connectivity server and transfers data to and from the connectivity server only when the connectivity agent is activated, and wherein the connectivity agent is deactivated during performance of the home therapy and when the connectivity agent is deactivated, the respective home therapy machine is prevented from sending any data to or receiving any data from the connectivity server, and wherein after the home therapy is complete, the at least one processor activates the connectivity agent; a system hub coupled to the home therapy machines through the connectivity server, the connectivity server in data communication with the home therapy machines and the system hub; a web portal configured to access the system hub; and a website accessible via the web portal, the website including a clinician portion enabling the clinician to electronically retrieve a doctor's prescription for renal therapy; based on the doctor's prescription, enable electronic selection of supplies including at least one of a dialyzer, a tubing set, a cassette, a container of a medical substance, or needles at a first location other than the patient's home or dwelling; and electronically initiate a sending of the supplies and the renal therapy machine to the patient's home or dwelling
