A polymeric nanoparticle composition is provided. The nanoparticle may be of a core/shell configuration with an interphase region connecting the core and the shell. The mean average diameter of the polymer nanoparticles may be less than about 250 nm. The size, composition, and/or configuration of the interphase region may be varied to achieve desired physical and/or chemical properties of the resulting polymeric nanoparticles, and of the compositions into which the nanoparticles are compounded.

The invention provides chain-coupled polymeric alkoxide compounds for use as the elastomeric component in vulcanizable elastomeric compositions comprising silica, carbon black or mixtures thereof. In particular, the invention provides anionically polymerized polymers having polymer chain living ends that are functionalized with alkoxide groups and coupled together by a metal or nonmetal atom. The polymeric alkoxide compounds have an initial high viscosity for ease of handling prior to compounding, a stable viscosity during storage, and a decreased compound viscosity for better filler dispersion and improved mixing efficiency. The invention further provides a pneumatic tire having at least one component produced from the vulcanizable elastomeric composition of the invention.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene having syndiotacticity of more than 66.5% and a melting point above 100 deg.C. SOLUTION: The method comprises polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of (a) an organomagnesium compound, (b) a chrome compound and (c) a dihydrocarbyl hydrogen phosphite. A product produced by the method and a molded article produced from the product are also provided.
