A polymerization catalyst composition for preparing cis 1,4-polydienes is provided. The catalyst composition comprises (a) a metal-containing compound, said metal being a transition metal or a lanthanide metal; (b) a carbene, (c) an alkylating agent, and optionally (d) a halogen-containing compound with the proviso that the halogen-containing compound must be present when none of the metal-containing compound and the alkylating agent contain a labile halogen atom. Also provided is a process for producing a polydiene comprising reacting a conjugated diene in the presence of the polymerization catalyst composition.

Uso de un compuesto de lantánido seleccionado del grupo que consiste en organofosfatos de lantánido, organofosfonatos de lantánido y organofosfinatos de lantánido, en un procedimiento para preparar un polidieno, para formar un polidieno que tiene un contenido de enlaces cis-1,4 por encima de 98% y una distribución de pesos moleculares of menos de 2,7, comprendiendo el procedimiento la etapa de: (i) introducir (a) un monómero diénico conjugado, (b) el compuesto de lantánido, (c) un agente alquilante y (d) un compuesto que contiene cloro, donde dicha etapa de introducción forma una mezcla de polimerización que incluye menos de 20% en peso de disolvente basado en el peso total de la mezcla de polimerización; y (ii) dejar que el monómero diénico conjugado se polimerice.
