    Abstract: A centrifuge apparatus which comprises a container (10) including a cylindrical member (11) with a lower rim and a piston member with a tubular piston rod (12). A supporting turntable (1) with a first gripping means (27) releasably grips the lower rim when the container (10) is placed thereon, said supporting turntable (1) being connected with a first activating means (5) for rotating the turntable (1) with the container (10) about the central axis thereof. A rotatably journalled piston activating mechanism activates the piston (12) by a second activating means (21) and is provided with a second gripping means (13) for releasably gripping the piston rod (12). The first gripping means (27) enters into a locking engagement with the inner side of the cylindrical member (11) upon activation of a third activating means (8) when the container (10) is placed on the turntable (1). The second gripping means (13) enters into a locking engagement with the piston rod (12) upon activation of a fourth activating means (15).
