Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink set, whose black ink gives a black ink image having excellent printing quality, water resistance and light stability, has excellent storage stability, wettability of the face of a printing head, ejection stability in intermittent ejection, etc., and is free from bleeding and further the occurrence of white haze (the lack of coloring material in the boundary between a high surface tension color ink and a low surface tension black ink). SOLUTION: This ink set for ink jet printing is used for recording color images on a material to be printed using inks of two or more colors including black ink. The black ink is composed of auto-dispersion type carbon black, in which at least one kind of hydrophilic group is bound on its surface directly or via another atomic group, and at least one material selected from a cationic material and a nonionic material. At the same time, the color ink contains at least a coloring material and a surfactant. The polarity of the coloring material in at least one color ink and the polarity of the black ink are opposite to each other. Ink jet printing and ink jet instrument using the ink set.

A method for reducing scorched deposits, a recording method, an apparatus and the like and a method for making the head have a long life are also claimed in this invention.
