Abstract: A method for cleaning the surface (ejection surface) of an ink jet head provided with an ink ejection opening by supplying a head liquid to the ejection surface and performing wiping operation. In the method, ink residue on the ejection surface is removed efficiently and surely, thus sufficient cleaning is performed. Application and stirring/mixing of the head liquid are carried out efficiently by performing first wiping operation such that the body portion of a wiper (9A) slides on the ejection surface while bending the wiper significantly. Mixture of the head liquid and the ink residue is then scraped efficiently by performing second wiping operation such that an edge portion at the forward end of a wiper (9B) slides on that surface.

Abstract: A method for refilling liquid using a refilling container (5) is to refill liquid to a liquid reserving container (3), which is provided with a first chamber (16) that houses a negative pressure generating member, at the same time, having an aperture conductively connected to the outside, and with a second chamber (14) conductively connected with the first chamber through a communicating unit for forming essentially a closed space with the exception of the communicating unit. This method comprises the step of forming an essentially closed space from the atmospheric air by means of the second chamber and the refilling container with the exception of the communicating unit in a state where the liquid surface of the refilling container (5) is positioned higher than the liquid surface of the second chamber, and the step of arranging the second chamber to be conductively connected with the refilling container by use of a first path that enables gas in the second chamber to communicate with gas in the refilling container, and a second path, which is different from the first path, arranged for shifting liquid in the refilling container into the second chamber. With the method thus arranged, liquid in the liquid refilling container is refilled into the liquid reserving chamber quickly and stably without leakage from the aperture arranged for the first chamber.

Abstract: A region to be covered by a cover plate (208) on an ejection opening forming surface (205) of an ink-jet head or an ink-jet head to which the cover plate (208) is installed are determined, on a basis of content of a rebounding mist generated upon ejection of an ink and a processing liquid in overlaying fashion. By this, in the ink-jet printing apparatus performing printing by ejecting the ink and the processing liquid for making the ink insoluble, deposition of the insoluble substance contained in the rebounding mist generated upon ejection of an ink and a processing liquid in overlaying fashion can be successfully prevented.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for ink jet printing use a print head including a first nozzle group for discharging a first ink, a second nozzle group for discharging a second ink and a third nozzle group for discharging a printability improving solution. The third nozzle group is displaced between the first nozzle group and the second nozzle group. The first nozzle group discharges the first ink on the printing medium based on image data to form an image, the third nozzle group discharges the printability improving solution on the image formed on the printing medium by means of another step, and the second nozzle group discharges the second ink on the image formed on the printing medium. The printability improving solution has higher penetrability into the printing medium compared to the ink.
The method and apparatus can attain a clear colored, high density image without color mixing, which has high water resistance on plain paper, with a low running cost.

Abstract: A liquid for head fed to efficiently eliminate any ink residue, etc. adhering to the surface of inkjet head furnished with a discharge orifice for discharging a colorant-containing ink. When a nonvolatile solvent, such as glycerol, is used as the liquid for head, the nonvolatile solvent due to moisture absorption exhibits an extremely large mass change, thereby causing the amount of liquid fed to disperse. As for this problem, it has been found that reduction of mass change as compared with that in the moisture absorption in the nonvolatile solvent alone can be realized by premixing water in the nonvolatile solvent. Thus, a mixture of nonvolatile solvent and water made at appropriate given ratio is used as the liquid for head.

Abstract: A method for cleaning the surface (ejection surface) of an inkjet head provided with an ink ejection opening, in which the cleaning is made by supplying head liquid to the ejection surface and performing wiping operation. In the method, the relative relationship of surface tension between the ejection surface, ink, and the head liquid is appropriately determined and an ink residue is efficiently and reliably removed from the ejection surface to achieve sufficient cleanliness. When the head liquid is supplied to the ink residue on the ejection surface, they are mixed and the ink residue is taken into the head liquid. Because both the ink and the head liquid used have higher surface tension than the ejection surface, wetness of the dissolved ink residue on the ejection surface is reduced and the dissolved ink residue is smoothly moved by wiping operation.
