Abstract: There is provided a multi-function device as follows. If the facsimile machine detects a voice capacity included in a received call connection signal packet from the data communication network connecting means, it connects a voice channel in the data communication network connecting means, to start a voice session.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record images on the reception side by receiving original images transmitted from the transmission side by eliminating wastes. SOLUTION: In the picture communication equipment which is connected to a line and communicates a color picture in an ITU-T advice with an opposite device, a scanner part 110 reads an original picture and identifies the size of the original picture which is read. When the size of the identified original picture is smaller than that of one page regulated by the ITU-T recommendation, invalid data is added to the original picture and the original picture is read so that the length of original picture becomes the main scanning length of one page, which is regulated by the ITU-T advice, when the scanner part 110 reads the original picture. At the time of compressing and transmitting picture data which is read, a JPEG compression part 403 sets an effective picture area of data compressed in accordance with the size of the original picture. Thus, only the effective picture area is read and is decoded and the picture can be reproduced on the reception side.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid a phenomenon of difference in density of a copied image between the rear end of an original and other parts, even if the density of the original is constant by applying a correction processing to image reading of the rear end part of the original. SOLUTION: The correction processing is applied to the image reading of the rear end part of the original. Pelated to this device a value of a pulse measuring register is cleared to zero when the rear end of the original 31 is discriminated to reach an original detection sensor 26 when an output port of the original detection sensor 26 is referred to at a fixed cycle by a main control part. In this case, since the distance between the original detection sensor 26 and the tip 30 of a guide and original carrying speed are constant, the number of transmission pulses to be required for the rear end of the original 31 to reach a position to drop from the guide after passing the original detection sensor 26 is calculated previously. Therefore, the number of required pulses is compared with a value of the measuring register, and when they match, the rear end of the original 31 is discriminated to have dropped from the guide, and reading correction of the rear end part of the original is started from that time.
