Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the detecting method and device for leakage in a heat exchanger for motorcar, which not only improve the utilizing rate of a machine as well as the reliability of leakage test but also remove restricting condition accompanied by the use of tracking gas and generate no charge for the method and device. SOLUTION: A heat exchanger 1 under testing is placed in a test chamber for the resistance to leakage and is connected to a pressurizing device 17, establishing the optimum air pressure in the internal cavity 2 of the same, then, the degree of vacuum around the heat exchanger in the test chamber for the resistance to leakage is established by a pump system, further, the existence of helium around the heat exchanger in the test chamber 24 for the resistance to leakage is detected by a helium leakage detector 30 whereby the existence of the leakage is tested. The test is carried out using helium existing in air naturally.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the preliminary exhaust duration time, to detect a large quantity of leak, to make the sensitivity of a leak detector adapt to a detection according to the characteristic of the leak to be tested, and to remove the background noise of helium resulted from a primary pump by use of the same primary pump. SOLUTION: A rotation starting device is constituted so that the rotating speed of a primary pump 6 is changed between at least two different rotating speeds V1, V2. A suction port 9 is selectively connected to the suction side 5 of the primary pump 6, the suction side 2 of a secondary pump 3, or a intermediate zone 14 through control valves 11, 13, 16. In order to execute the quickest preliminary exhaust, the detection of the largest quantity of leak, the compensation of the largest quantity of gas leak, and the adaptation of the sensitivity of the device prior to a test, and also in order to suppress the background noise of helium caused from the primary pump 6, the rotating speed change of the primary pump 6 is used.

Abstract: The leak detector has a mass spectrometer (2) with a pumping unit (1), which produces a signal (q) proportional to the partial pressure of the gas present for which the spectrometer is adjusted. The pumping unit enables the equipment to function in sniffing or vacuum modes. The signal is passed through a differentiator (5), an amplifier (6) of ratio (A) and a low pass filter (7) which eliminates high frequencies not characteristic of a leak. The signal (dq/dt) produced is added (4) to the original signal in a summer (4) and used to produce a signal (qt) which denotes the leak.
