Abstract: The invention relates to a method for checking the operability of at least one switching unit (1) which comprises a plurality of switches (S1 to S5) and at least one preferably internal control unit (5), which control unit is especially designed to control an electrically actuated consumer in a vehicle, the control unit (5) being connected to one switch (S1 to S5) each and being connectible to an external control device (6) via an interface unit. The operability of the switching unit (1) is checked in an especially advantageous manner by way of at least one internal diagnostic routine (IDR) run in the control unit (5) or an external diagnostic routing (EDR) run in the external control device (6), the diagnostic routines (IDR, EDR) generating at least one test signal (ts, ts1, ts2) which is applied to at least one of the switches (S1 to S5). The input signals (es1, es2) received by the switches (S1 to S5) in the control unit (5) are evaluated for checking the operability, depending on the respective switching states of the switches (S1 to S5).

Abstract: In an electronic parking brake system and to a method for controlling said system, to detect an undesired positional modification of an actuator ( 14 ) of the parking brake system during an inactive state of the controller ( 12 ), the latter is switched to an active state by a sensor ( 22 ). To generate the displacement signal ( 24 ), the sensor ( 22 ) only draws energy from the motion of the actuator ( 14 ) or from a modification of the magnetic field that is caused by the motion of the actuator ( 12 ).
