Abstract: A process for the manufacture of crystalline material 125 comprises: heating, using a first heat source 105, a first volume 130 of a ribbon 120 & 125, the ribbon comprising a polycrystalline material 120; and concurrently heating, using a second heat source 110 – A & hundred and 10 – B while the ribbon is moving relative to at least the second heat source and using the first heat source, a second volume 135 of the ribbon that is within the first volume, wherein heating using the first heat source and the second heat source converts at least a portion of the poly crystalline material of the ribbon within the second volume to a crystalline material. The first and second heat sources may be applied to different surfaces of the ribbon. The concurrent heating of the second volume may comprise scanning the second volume of the ribbon with the second heat source while the first volume and the second volume are heated by the first heat source. Also disclosed is a ribbon comprising a first volume extending from a first side of the ribbon to a first depth of the ribbon comprising a polycrystalline material; and a second volume extending from a second side of the ribbon opposite the first side to a second depth and comprising a crystalline material.

Abstract: The inventions relates to a tape separation system for sintering preparation, the system comprising: a source of tape material comprising a green tape and a carrier web supporting the green tape, the green tape comprising grains of inorganic material in a binder; a peeler for directing the carrier web in a rewind direction and directing the green tape in a downstream processing direction that differs from the rewind direction; and a vacuum drum positioned and configured to receive the tape material from the source and convey the tape material to the peeler, wherein the vacuum drum comprises holes for applying suction to the carrier web to facilitate tensioning the carrier web, and wherein tension, in force per cross-sectional area, in the carrier web is greater than tension in the green tape as the tape material is conveyed from the vacuum drum to the peeler, thereby mitigating deformation of the green tape during separation of the green tape from the carrier web.
