Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process of preparing a hydrogenation catalyst on a carbon black carrier having the higher dispersibility of noble meals than that of known catalysts and having relatively high activity and selectivity. SOLUTION: This hydrogenation catalyst contains carbon black having an H content exceeding 4,000 ppm as a carbon carrier and palladium and/or platinum or the palladium and/or platinum doped or alloyed by bimetals and/or multimetals as an active component for the catalyst.
