Abstract: Activated carbon is produced from lignite coke. It is characterized by the product of the molasses number times the iodine number divided by 1000 being 350 to 1000 and/or the product of the molasses number times the methylene blue number divided by 10 being 500 to 1200. It is produced by adding aqueous alkali or alkaline earth carbonate solution and/or aqueous alkali or alkaline earth hydroxide solution by means of lance during the steam activation of lignite coke in a rotating tube.

Abstract: After separating the hydrogen halide pyrogenically produced silicon dioxide is mixed with nitrogen and fed into a cyclone. After separating the silicon dioxide from the gases, which are returned to the cooling zone of the production apparatus, the silicone dioxide is mixed first with organo-halo silane and then with water vapour and nitrogen. The hydrophobing reaction is subsequently carried out in a conventional manner in a fluidized bed reactor. The waste gases from the reaction are returned to the cyclone.
