    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide partially hydrophobic precipitated silicic acid suitable as a carrier for functional substances sensitive to hydrolysis. SOLUTION: This partially hydrophobic precipitated silicic acid is produced by blending an hydrophobicity agent with precipitated silicic acid suspension in a short duration time at low pH value, by the solid-liquid separation through filtration, by washing the solid so as for it to include salts and by drying it, followed by heat treatment and then by grinding the heat-treated solid. The partially hydrophobic precipitated silicic acid has 10-49% wettability in methanol and >250 g/100 g DBP absorption (moisture-free) or 1-12 μm average particle diameter and/or 0.3-1.85% carbon content and/or 2.6-10.0% loss on drying and/or 5.5-10.0 pH value and is applicable to a functional substance formulated product, a formulated product of a functional substance sensitive to hydrolysis and a defoaming agent.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide partially hydrophobic precipitated silicic acid, a method for producing the silicic acid and a formulation for the use of the silicic acid as a carrier for an active substance sensitive to hydrolysis and for the use of the silicic acid in a defoaming agent. SOLUTION: A hydrophobicity imparting agent and a suspension of precipitated silicic acid are mixed in a short retention time at a low pH and the solid is separated by filtration, washed to a salt-free state, dried, heat-treated and comminuted to produce the objective partially hydrophobic precipitated silicic acid having 10-49% methanol wettability, >250 g/100 g DBP(dibutyl phthalate) absorption (anhydrous) or 1-12 μm average particle diameter and/or 0.3-1.85% carbon content and/or 2.6-10.0% drying loss and/or pH 5.5-10.0. This partially hydrophobic precipitated silicic acid can be used in an active substance formulation, in an active substance formulation of a substance sensitive to hydrolysis and in a defoaming agent.

The silica is prepared by mixing a silica suspension (which has been prepared using known methods) with a material that gives the silica hydrophobic properties. The mixing takes place for a very short time at conditions of low pH and high shear. The resulting suspension is filtered and washed in salt-free conditions, and the filter cake is dried, thermally treated and powdered.

    Abstract: Al-doped precipitated silica particles have a BET surface area above 300 m /g and uniformly distributed Al. An Independent claim is also included for production of the doped silica in which an Al salt solution is added in step (a) and (c) of the following process: (a) heating a water/Na silicate mixture to 70-86 degrees C and neutralizing the Na silicate with H2SO4; (b) ageing the solution for 30-120 minutes; (c) adjusting to pH 3-7 by addition of H2SO4; and (d) filtering and spray drying and milling the washed filter cake.
