Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decorating a solid material, especially a materiel to be baked for the purpose of decoration by a direct or an indirect printing process. SOLUTION: Printing is performed by an ink jet printing process. A color paste containing at least 30 wt.% pigment and inorganic solid such as glass frit and a thermoplastic medium having a melt point of 30 deg.C of higher, is applied to a surface to be decorated with the help of an ink jet printing head to be heated, preferably equipped with a circulating device for an additionally molten color paste.

Abstract: A precious metal decoration matting composition, comprising titanium dioxide-free oxidic and/or silicate matting agent of softening temperature above the decoration firing temperature, is new. A composition, for forming a reflection reducing layer under or on a lustrous precious metal preparation-containing layer for producing a precious metal decoration by firing the layers on a silicate substrate, comprises 20-80 wt.% glass frit of 1-10 mu average particle diameter and 20-80 wt.% matting agent selected from oxidic and/or silicate materials and/or their precursors, excluding titanium dioxide, of softening temperature above the firing temperature of the layers and of 1-20 mu average particle diameter. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a printing paste comprising 40-80 wt.% of the above composition and 20-60 wt.% of a liquid or thermoplastic printing medium; (ii) production of a precious metal decoration using a reflection reducing layer comprising the above composition; and (iii) a decalcomania comprising the above dried printing paste.

Abstract: Production of a relief decoration on a surface of a substrate comprises applying relief-forming moldings onto the surface and fixing to the surface by ceramic baking at a temperature above the softening temperature of the glass frit contained in the molding. The moldings used are produced by shaping a powder material containing a glass frit. Preferred Features: The moldings are produced by using a shaping aid which can dissolve or swell in water. The shaping aid is produced from natural and chemically modified mono-, oligo- and polysaccharides, and synthetic organic polymers.
