    Abstract: Shaped bodies of a molecular sieve zeolite having an improved mechanical hardness greater than 5 kp are produced by spraying an unstable silicic acid sol as the binder on to a zone of the rotating plate of a granulating device and concurrently applying the pulverized zeolite particles to another zone of the rotating plate, while avoiding the formation of a plastic mass, and the thus produced shaped bodies are dried and activated according to the disclosed process. The unstable silicic acid sol has a silicic acid content greater than 10 percent by weight and a BET surface greater than 150 m2/g.

The product has a composition of 1.0±0.2 M2/nO : Al2O3 : 1.85±0.5 SiO2.yH2O, where M = metallic cation, n = atomic value, and y = number up to 6. 50 wt.% of a powder having a size less than 4.8.μ (1) is heated up to 30-100≦̸C; (2) is introduced for 10-200 min.; (3) at a temp. of 30-100≦̸C is mixed with the soln.; and the soln. mixture is crystallized at a temp. of 20-115≦̸C for more than 15 min.

    Abstract: The present invention provides in a process for producing zeolitic molecular sieve powders by hydro-thermal crystallization of an aqueous aluminate-silicate mixture, separation of the crystallization product from the mother liquor and drying of the product, the improvement in which the aqueous medium containing the crystallization product is adjusted to a pH value between 8.5 and 11 prior to said drying. The present invention also provides a zeolitic molecular sieve powder having an average particle diameter of less than 10 .mu.m and in proportions of less than 1% by weight of particles having sizes of more than 45 .mu.m. Such zeolitic powders are particularly useful as ion exchangers, e.g. in the softening of water and as substitutes for phosphates in detergents and rinsing agents.
